Tiny Flame, Bred by Ralph Moore, California 1969.

Tiny FlameThis rose is bred from a cross of (R. wichurana X Floradora) X New Penny. Many of the early Ralph Moore hybrids have the same R. wichurana X Floradora parent in their pedigree. It is a sign of Mr. Moore's creative genius that he could obtain a miniature no bigger than 8 inches tall from a climbing species like R. wichurana!

This tiny rose is very close in stature to Pedro Dot's 'Si', being no more than about 8 inches tall. The bright red-orange blooms are quite small....about 0.5 inches across, and frequently produced so prolifically that the blooms hide the foliage! I have grown mine only in a greenhouse, so I am not sure how well it resists diseases. I have heard reports from areas as cold as Denver, CO that 'Tiny Flame' is quite hardy there. (approximately zone 5)

ARS merit rating: 6.8
Personal merit rating: 8.5
Hardiness: Likely USDA zones 6 to 10, zone 5 in a protected location.
Shrub size: 5 to 10 inches tall.

Fragrance: none.
