Strange Music , Bred by Ralph Moore, Visalia, California. 1986. Breeding: 'Little Darling' X "33stripe". Sometimes a new rose hits the market and for some reason, it never makes a name for itself. Sometimes it can simply be poor timing: a marketplace that isn't interested in that style of rose, or maybe other roses make a bigger impression. Perhaps it just wasn't hyped enough in the catalogs. That certainly seems to be the case with 'Strange Music', by Ralph Moore. This is one of the most well behaved, compact and brilliantly colored of all the striped Mini Mosses. The plant is compact (12 to 16 inches tall), densely formed and well covered with glossy dark green foliage. It blooms in clusters of 3 or more, each bloom being no more than 1.5 inches across. The blossoms are beautifually formed, as you see in the photo, and the red stripes are a bright clear red on a sparkling white background. The buds are also moderately mossed, a trait inherited from its pollen parent "33 stripe", which is 'Fairy Moss' X "26 Stripe" ("26 stripe" is 'Little Darling' X 'Ferdinand Pichard') 'Strange Music' is available once again (after a brief disappearance from commerce) from Sequoia Nursery by special order. HIGHLY recommended. ARS
