Secret Recipe, Bred by Ralph Moore, California, 1994. 'Secret Recipe' is a cross of 'Little Darling' and an unnamed striped moss seedling. One of Ralph Moore's greatest ambitions has been to create striped roses, and moss roses, all in miniature form. In this instance, he has succeeded in combining all of these characteristics! Not only is 'Secret Recipe' a striped mini, but the buds are also moderately mossed as well. This is a fairly vigorous rose, sending up lots of new growth from the base every year to become a 2 foot shrub. The foliage is a bit sparse, and prone to blackspot, but otherwise it is a fine little rose. There is no fragrance from the bloom itself, but the mossing has the typical balsam-like scent when touched. Sadly
this wonderful little rose is in danger of disappearing from the market.
I hope it will always have a place in my collection. It's truly a charming
little thing....if you find a plant, get it! You won't be disappointed. ARS
