Double Treat, bred by Ralph Moore, California 1986. Breeding: 'Arizona' X ( ('Fairy Moss' x 'Fairy Moss') x ('Little Darling' x 'Ferdinand Pichard') ) This little rose is a true wonder of modern breeding by the pioneer of Miniatures, Ralph Moore. It is a Miniature Moss rose that produces double blooms of red stripes on a yellow ground color. Not only is it a blend of all these striking characteristics, but it is a real performer too, rarely being without a bloom or two. It is new to my collection last summer, and it was one of the roses that seemed to be constantly in bloom. It makes a tidy, shrubby plant of about 15" tall, give or take a few inches, and is quite winter hardy to at least zone 6. (Most of the miniatures from Ralph Moore's breeding program are! It is one quality he has bred them for.) It may be of interest to breeders and historians to know that the striping was inherited from the Hybrid Perpetual rose of the 1800's, 'Ferdinand Pichard'. 'Double Treat' is available from The Uncommon Rose ARS
