"Red Star", Bred by Paul Barden, 1997.
It is just as you see it here....a bright poinsettia red, which fades to a purplish hue as it ages. I expect it has inherited this quality from its Austin parent. Flowers are about 1 inch across. This is, surprisingly, a cross of Black Jade X Wenlock. As some people have intimated to me, Ralph Moore included, miniaturism is dominant in breeding with minis. It certainly seems to be the case here, as this plant has yet to exceed 14" tall. It blooms constantly, and has proven winter hardy. The blooms have no scent. It's
an interesting little plant, coarse in growth, thorny and with little
to commend it. I have kept it simply because it is the first rose I
grew from seed. I will propagate it upon request if any of you want
to try it. ARS

This
little rose is the first rose I ever grew from seed! I keep it more
for sentimental reasons than for its few merits. It is not a strong
plant, and it is susceptible to blackspot. However, it sure is a pretty
bloom when it first opens.
