Café Olé, introduced by Ralph Moore, 1990. A sport of Winter Magic. This has to be one of the most unusual miniature roses that there is! I have to admit that I am drawn to coffee and russet colors* in flowers, and this miniature is all that and more! Café Olé is the color of creamed coffee! It is simultaneously a beautiful color, and an odd one.....sure to repulse some people. Sometimes the fully open blooms turn a pale mauve-blue color, as you can see in the background of the picture. This is the mini that I recommend to folks when they ask me "Are there any really fragrant Minis?" Café Olé has a very intense spicy scent that is hard to beat. The plant itself is fairly compact in habit, branching well, and blooming freely. So far, the foliage has proven to be quite disease free for me. I have grown Café Olé both in the greenhouse and outdoors, and it has not had any Blackspot. As with most of the modern miniatures, Café Olé should be quite hardy to at least zone 6, and likely even 5, possibly requiring protection there. I have a friend in Denver, Colorado who grows many miniatures, and she says they are all much hardier than the modern Hybrid Teas. If you are looking for an unusual, soft brown color for your garden or patio pots, this is a must. Café Olé is available from The Uncommon Rose *See 'Teddy Bear' ARS
