Simplex,
Bred by Ralph Moore, California 1961.
Unfortunately
there have been very few single minis bred in the world. 'Simplex' is
one of them, and a fine one too! This handsome little rose has a very
"species-like" charm with its simple gleaming white blossoms
produced prolifically in sprays throughout the season. I suspect that
it inherited its cluster-blooming habit from R. wichurana, whcih plays
a big part in its ancestry.
The
buds are a soft apricot color as they open, becoming white very quickly.
The blooms are about 1.5 inches across when fully open, and have no
scent that I can detect. The plant itself is a shapely, branching shrub
that has been completely disease free in my garden. I find this to be
a perfectly charming addition to my collection, and recommend it highly.
