'Crested Jewel', bred by Ralph Moore, California, 1971. 'Crested Jewel' is the first of the Crested Hybrids to come out of Sequoia Nursery. Resulting from the cross of a 'Little Darling' and 'Chapeau de Naploeon', it is a once bloomer, but prolifically so. All of the subsequent Crested Hybrids Ralph Moore has created have come out of this rose. There is another rose from the same cross known as 'Crested Sweetheart', which is more of a climber. Both of these roses are fine shrubs, well worth growing not only for their fascinating frilly sepals but for their quality, highly fragrant blooms and elegant growth habit.
