Vineyard Song, Bred by Ralph Moore, California, 1999.

Vineyard Song'Vineyard Song' is one of the newest shrub roses from Ralph Moore's breeding program. Introduced by Sequoia Nursery in 1999, this rose was bred from a cross of 'Little Chief' X 'Violette', which is also the breeding of the miniature, 'Sweet Chariot'.

I have grown 'Vineyard Song' for only one season so far, but already I can say that it is one of my favorite new shrubs. While it was still in a pot in the greehouse in June, even a cluster of five or six blooms would scent the whole greenhouse! It is not really a traditional rose fragrance, but I find it to be one of the most attractive scents I know. As you can see, the color is a lavender-pink hue, although it varies with different weather conditions. Often there are deep mauve blooms along with magenta and pink and pale lavender blooms at the same time all over the plant! It makes for a very attractive effect.

The shrub itself is of a cascading habit, or "fountain-like' for lack of a better description. It grows to about 3 feet tall, arching over in a graceful weeping form at maturity. Mine isn't that big yet, but I am looking forward to seeing it get to its mature shape! It appears to be completely disease free...at least it is for me so far.

'Vineyard Song' is available from The Uncommon Rose
