"un-named climbing seedling" bred by Ralph Moore, 1988. Breeding: "0-47-19" X "Queencrest". This is one of the most remarkable of the Crested Hybrids to come from Ralph Moore's innovative breeding program. I cannot be more enthusiastic about a rose than I am about this one. A truly magnificent sight when in full flush, this ruby red climber is a real original! Semi-double blooms of about 4" diameter cover the plant in clusters of three or more in early summer. There is a light fragrance. It is a once-blooming plant, but it flowers for a long period as the blooms open in succession. One of the most striking features of this rose is the fact that it has inherited some of the crested sepals from its grandparent, 'Chapeau de Naploeon'. (R. centifolia cristata) You can see these sepals in the photograph here. This makes a fairly large climbing plant to about 10 or 12 feet tall, with beautiful, semi-glossy dark foliage. Disease resistance is well above average, a quality likely inherited from its seed parent, which includes R. wichuraiana in its makeup. The bloom color is the richest ruby red with velvety shimmering highlights. This hybrid is NOT yet in commerce, so please do not contact Ralph Moore's nursery to request it. Only after more evaluation will this rose be made available, if ever. Please be patient. Read more about Mr. Moore's work with Crested Roses here
