Midnight Blue, bred by Tom Carruth, 2004, introduced 2005 by Weeks Roses.
What an excellent new rose this is! The color is magnificent, it blooms like mad all Summer in big clusters, it has very good disease resistance (both Mildew and Blackspot) and has a very nice Clove scent. Something that is rarely mentioned when the rose is discussed is the fact that it is nearly thornless as well. I acquired 'Midnight Blue' in 2005 as a grafted specimen. (I am told that it doesn't do as well on its own roots) It grew quickly to make a 2.5 foot bush and bloomed with abandon all Summer. Rarely does a brand new bare-root rose perform that well in its first year. Surely this is a sign of goodthings to come. I would recommend it without hesitation. ARS
