Playtime, bred by Ralph Moore, Visalia California, 1989.

'Playtime'
Breeding: 'Playboy' X 'Old Master'.

So far, Ralph Moore is known primarily as the "King Of Miniatures", and yet he has made many fine contributions to the Shrub, Rugosa and Floribunda classes. 'Playtime' is one of the Floribunda hybrids to come out of Sequoia Nursery, and is a fine addition to the class.

The shrub is short, to about 2.5 feet or so, and blooms profusely all season long. There is almost no fragrance, but with color like this, who cares?! (I should point out that I am NOT a fan of orange......just don't ask me to explain why I like this one!) Blooms are produced in clusters of 3 or so, or sometimes singly, and are about 3.5 to 4 inches across each. The foliage is full and glossy, and is a dark mahogany red when young, making for even more color on the plant!

I have only had this rose 1 year, so I will reserve further comments till I have seen it one more season. Sequoia Nursery says that it is very heat resistant, and grows well under harsh conditions.

ARS merit rating: 8.5
Personal merit rating: 8.5
Hardiness: Likely USDA zones 6 to 10, zone 5 in a protected location.
Shrub size: 2 to 3 feet tall, depending on climate.

Fragrance: 1.5 little fragrance.
