"Redcrest", a crested seedling bred from 'Crested Jewel', Ralph Moore, CA.

"Redcrest", a seedling.Breeding: 'Sarabande' X 'Crested Jewel'.

This is one of the Floribunda type roses bred from 'Crested Jewel', and certainly one of the more interesting so far. This makes a dense, shrubby plant of about 2 to 2.5 feet tall, and is very much a Floribunda in growth habit. It repeats very well in small clusters and singly, with somewhat informally shaped blooms of rich cherry red about 4" across each.

This is currently not in commerce, but is under evaluation for market potential. Please do not contact Ralph Moore's nursery to acquire this rose......if it comes available, you will see it announced in their catalog! (Be patient......these new varieties must undergo years of evaluation before they are deemed fit for commerce)

This seedling is just one of many many test varieties of Crested Hybrids that Mr. Moore is evaluating at his nursery. It is only a matter of time before some of them will be made available on the market, and it will be an historical event when they are. These will be the first repeat blooming roses to be created from R. centifolia cristata that have repeat blooming capabilities and a wide range of colors. These fantastic roses are the result of over 30 years of research and development, and it is this kind of perseverence that makes Ralph Moore such a creative pioneer in his work. Be sure to read his own statements about breeding Crested Roses.
