'Chelsea' bred by Ralph Moore, California 1986

'Chelsea'Breeding: "1-72-1" x 'Crested Jewel'.

'Chelsea' is the only Miniature to date that has the genes of R. centifolia cristata in its makeup. As you can see from the photograph, there is some of the cresting on the buds of 'Chelsea' inherited from 'Crested Jewel', but only to a small degree. However, 'Chelsea' went on to play a role in the breeding of another of the Crested roses, "Un-named seedling" listed below.

Unfortunately, 'Chelsea' has not prospered in commerce, perhaps because it is not unique enough? It is still available from Sequoia Nursery by special request.
