Surpasse
Tout,
breeder unknown, likely France circa 1811.
'Surpasse Tout' has undoubtedly survived for nearly two hundred years in cultivation for obvious reasons; this is a beautiful plant. Candy pink blooms of perfect OGR form; fully double in layers of folded, crimped petals finishing with a pale pink button eye. It also has a very nice perfume. The blooms are not large (3 inches) but there are many of them over a long period. This charming Gallica is new to my collection in 2004 and so I will undoubtedly have more to say about its merits as time passes. I can already say that it has shown superior disease resistance, shunning Blackspot completely and getting only a bit of Mildew late in the dry part of August. ARS
