"Rush Family Rose", date and origin unknown.

This rose is a found Gallica that was given to me by an Oregon collector. Its exact origin is unknown, and it has never been identified by any other grower.

In spite of the fact that its identity is not known, it is a magnificent rose. It has many of the characteristics of a rose of mixed Gallica heritage, perhaps having China or Centifolia influence. It is a taller shrub than most of its clan, growing with arching canes to seven feet which bend to near the ground when loaded with the Spring bloom. The abundance of flowers is amazing, with clusters borne at most every leaf axil. No bloom is larger than 3 inches, but the sheer profusion is its strength. Always shallowly cupped in form, the mauve-pink-purple-gray blend blooms are well scented, like a Centifolia.

Whatever it is, its a lovely rose that will surely make its way back into commerce one of these days, for it thrills all who see it when it is in flower in my garden.
