'Belle sans Flatterie', introduced by Godefroy, France 1820. Likely originated in Holland, pre-1806.

'Belle sans Flatterie' was once one of the most popular of the Gallicas, and for good reasons. It produces abundant bloom in large clusters over a long period in early summer. The shrub is an attractive rounded form, well covered in dark green smallish foliage, and has been completely disease free in my experience.

Blooms are as you see here, a deeper clear pink at the center, with a paler, more mauve-pink hue at the perimeter. Flowers are fully double, often showing a tendancy to quartering. The fragrance is very good also. I think this is one of the nicest of the pinkish mauve Gallicas, remaining tidy at all times, and providing an outstanding amount of bloom. It is certainly well worth having in a collection od Old Roses.
