Chianti, bred by David Austin, England 1967.

Breeding: 'Dusky Maiden' X 'Tuscany'.

'Chianti' is one of the very first of the David Austin roses, introduced by Graham Thomas' Sunningdale Nursery. This rose is very much like some of the Hybrid Gallicas, with its larger than average growth which makes it suitable for training as a small climber.

Beautiful, rich crimson blooms that age to purple are produced over several weeks in the Spring, like the rest of the Gallicas. 'Chianti' has a very good fragrance as well. This is a very fine rose that really should be grown more often.
