Marbrée seedling #5. Bred by Paul Barden, 1998.

This is one of the other Marbrée seedlings I started from open pollinated seeds 2 years ago. This is the darkest of the four I have bloomed, but it is also the least spotted of all. The blooms are quite large for a Damask Perpetual..about 4" across, and there is a very nice Damask fragrance.

This seems to be the most vigorous of these seedlings, and it has made a sturdy plant of about 3 feet tall, with thick, attractive foliage. (however, it has shown some tendancy to mildew, and blackspot) I don't know if it has any remontancy yet. I will be keeping this one for further evaluation. It is certainly an attractive shrub, and seems likely to have some worthy qualities. The Damask Perpetuals are very interesting roses to me, and I will be incorporating them into my breeding work in the years to come.
