Marbrée seedling #1. Bred by Paul Barden, 1998.

This is the first seedling to bloom out of a group of Marbrée seeds I grew last year. The seeds were the result of a self pollination. Although the parent plant is a repeat blooming Damask Perpetual, the seedlings I have grown are apparently not reblooming, or only partially so. This plant has not rebloomed after its first flush. This could be because it is working hard to produce seeds for me.

In most ways, this rose is almost identical to Marbrée, except perhaps the blooms are a bit bigger, and open quite flat, which is, to me, a desirable trait. There is a moderately strong Damask fragrance, and the plant appears to be resistant to diseases. (It had a mild case of mildew early in the spring, but it has been clean since.) I will be evaluating this rose further to determine if it has any remontancy next season.
