Lady Moss, bred by Ralph Moore, Visalia California, 2004. Breeding: 'Fairy Moss' X 'Gabriel Noyelle'. Many years ago I was visiting Ralph Moore at Sequoia Nursery and I recall being shown a wonderful Moss Shrub that he called "18-70-9", a hybrid of 'Gabriel Noyelle'. It was a very full bush standing about 4 feet tall and a little less wide, and it was loaded with the most wonderful OGR style white blooms with the softest blush of pink-peach at their centers. The mossing was dark brownish green and very heavy on the buds. To say that I was impressed is an understatement. I asked if it was commercially available and I was told, no, but they were considering it. Well, several years later it has been released into commerce and we can all enjoy this superb new Moss rose. I have grown it in my garden since 2002 and have found it to be a very fine rose. It remaind about 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, is very full and bushy and blooms about 4 times a year in flushes. It has very little fragrance, but its blooms and mossing and overall shrub value more than makes up for it. It will benefit from fungicide sprayings in some climates to prevent Blackspot, but otherwise it is quite healthy and very vigorous. A grand new addition to the remontant Moss category. Thank you Mr. Moore! Available at both The Uncommon Rose and Sequoia Nursery. ARS
