Renae,
by Ralph Moore, USA. Bred in 1941, released 1954.
Breeding: 'Étoile Luisante' X 'Sierra Snowstorm'.
This climbing Polyantha is a fantastic rose that deserves to be more
widely grown. I suppose the reason it has remained a fairly obscure
rose is its lack of hardiness in climates colder than zone 7. However,
if you have the right climate for it, this is a most wonderful rose.
It's nearly thornless, it blooms almost continuously, and it offers
a very pleasant fragrance. What more could you ask for?!
'Renae'
has been used in the breeding program at Sequoia Nursery over the years,
and its offspring includes 'Little
Pinkie', 'Renny' and 'White Rain'. Kim Rupert has introduced
a beautiful new climber in 2001 bred from 'Renae' called 'Annie Laurie
McDowell'.
You
can find 'Renae' at several nurseries, including The
Uncommon Rose, and Sequoia Nursery.
