Annie Laurie McDowell by Kim Rupert, 2001, USA. 'Renae' X self

This new climber is named for Kim's friend, Candy Craig of California. This rose came about as a selection from open pollinated seeds of Ralph Moore's 1954 Polyantha Climber 'Renae'. Kim's nickname for this magnificent climber before it was registered was "Super Renae", which tells you something about its merits. 'Annie Laurie McDowell' has larger blooms, with many more petals, on a sturdier plant. It has a spectacular Spring flush of bloom, with some bloom through the summer, and a big display again in the Fall. As you might expect, there is a delicious fragrance as well. I expect this new modern climber is going to become a very popular rose in the years to come. A mature plant in full bloom is a remarkable sight!
