Alberic Barbier, bred by Barbier Frères & Compagnie, 1900.

Alberic BarbierBreeding: R. wichuraiana X 'Shirley Hibbard' (A yellow Tea)

What a wonderful climbing rose this is. Capable of producing trusses of hundreds of lemon and cream colored blossoms, it makes an extraordinary display in early Summer. While considered to be a typical once-blooming Wichuraiana, it will offer a smattering of blooms through the Summer and into the Fall. Lovely fresh fragrance and extremely healthy, disease resistant foliage make a great rose even better. A top-notch climber for many climates and reliably cold hardy to at least zone 6. This is considered by many to be the best of the Barbier Ramblers, in part because it is the hardiest of the lot.

ARS merit rating: 7.9
Personal merit rating: 8.7
Hardiness: Likely USDA zones 5 to 10, zone 5 in a protected location.
Shrub size: 10 to 15 feet tall.
Fragrance: 4.0, very strong Old Rose fragrance!
