Eglantyne,
Austin 1994, breeding: seedling X Mary Rose
Eglantyne
is another of the newer Austin pink
roses, introduced in 1994. It is supposed to make a shapely shrub about
3.5 feet tall, but in the Pacific Northwest it is likely that it will
get quite a bit bigger than that. (St. Swithun, a similar cultivar,
has gotten to be about 6 feet tall in my garden!)
The
blooms are very large and quite double, and have a strong sweet scent,
as so many of the Austin roses do.
Eglantyne
was photographed in the display gardens of Heirloom
Old Garden Roses, St. Paul, Oregon
