Smoky, bred by Combe, France 1968.

A strange rose, to be sure. The color is a blend of deep red with hints of cinnamon, overlaid with an odd greyish purple cast. The photo barely illustrates its magical hues. A strong, upright grower in typical Hybrid Tea style and generous with bloom. I suppose it was a rose before its time because it seems that it has only now found a true home in the hearts of rose collectors.

This is an equally good grower on its own roots or budded.

ARS merit rating:
Personal merit rating: 8.5.
Hardiness: Likely USDA zones 6 to 10, zone 5 with considerable protection.
Shrub size: 2.5 to 5 feet tall X 3 feet wide.
Fragrance: 3.0, moderate fragrance, a "spicy" scent.
