'Irene Watts', bred by Guillot, France, 1896.
The blooms of 'Irene Watts' are a wonderful soft apricot color, with deeper orange tones at the heart of the bloom. Flowers eventually fade to ivory, and have a very pleasant, but not particularly powerful fragrance. The plant is very compact and twiggy, and will form a very tidy small to medium sized shrub. In colder climates it will remain at the 1.5 foot height, while in a milder zone I have seen mature plants reach 3 feet in height. Disease resistance is much better than average, and it is a very reliable repeat bloomer. All in all 'Irene Watts' is a very attractive small shrub that would be appreciated by English Rose fans for its "Austin-like" qualities. ARS merit

'Irene
Watts' is rather unlike the other China roses in its coloring and growth
habit. It is certainly far removed from the more ancient Chinas, like
'
