'Tangerine Jewel', bred by Ralph Moore, California 2002.

'Tangerine Jewel' (MORtange) 'Joycie' X 'Out Of Yesteryear' Hybrid Bracteata, orange blend.

This is one of the new releases for 2002 from Sequoia Nursery. It is classed as a Hybrid Bracteata, and grows very much like a large Miniature, over 18 inches tall. It can almost be described as a Floribunda type with clusters of 2½" to 3½" blooms. Slightly more than single with 7 to 12 petals, it is a glowing shade of Melon orange with a clear yellow center. The foliage is a beautiful semi-glossy green, and offers excellent disease resistance, as do all three of these new Bracteata hybrids. Fast repeat bloom and a pronounced fragrance, even in cool weather. 'Tangerine Jewel' is less thorny than the usual Bracteata type, and has been observed to set seed.
