Rosa foliolosa, North American native species, first described in 1880.

Rosa foliolosa
Rosa foliolosa is a lovely little rose that is ideal for a simple, woodland style garden. It is tolerant of wet soils and some shade, and is quite disease free in my experience. I originally obtained this rose for breeding purposes, since it has some history as a useful parent plant. (This is one of the parents of 'Basye's Purple') This is a very compact species shrub that will sucker gradually to make a small thicket. One of its nice features is the fern-like bright green foliage.

R. foliolosa blooms for a few weeks in early Summer only, with loads of well scented bright pink blooms.
