Magseed, bred by Ralph Moore, Visalia, California. Not currently available in commerce.

"Magseed""Magseed" is a Rugosa hybrid bred by Ralph Moore, and is also a sibling to the wonderful 'Linda Campbell'. It is used only as a breeding parent and has not been released into commerce here in North America. Its parentage is: 'Anytime' X 'Rugosa Magnifica'.

"Magseed" forms a fairly large shrub of about 5 feet tall and 6 feet wide. It is a shapely shrub, well articulated branching, good foliage (although more Blackspot prone than its sibling) and wonderful color. It also sports agood Clove-like Rugosa scent, which 'Linda Campbell' missed out on. Contrary to its name, I find it rarely sets viable seed, but its pollen is extremely fertile. With luck, it may lead the way to new Winter hardy shrub roses in the future.

ARS merit rating: none assigned
Personal merit rating: 8.0
Hardiness: Likely USDA zones 5 to 8, zone 4 in a protected location.
Shrub size: 6 to 8 feet tall, depending on climate. Fragrance: 3.0, moderate Rugosa scent, with Clove overtones.
