Ardoisée de Lyon, by Damaizin, France 1858.

This is thought to be a sport of 'Baronne Prévost'. The plant is in every was identical to 'Baronne Prévost', but with a deeper, more purple coloring to the blossom. Opens reddish-crimson and fades to a slatey-vioet hue. Some repeat of bloom, depending on climate, (H.P.'s tend not to rebloom in hot regions) and an excellent, rich "old Rose" fragrance.

ARS merit rating: none assigned
Personal merit rating: undecided
Hardiness: Likely USDA zones 5 to 9, zone 5 in a protected location.
Shrub size: 4 to 6 feet tall.
Fragrance: 4.0, strong Old Rose scent.
