Rêve d'Or, Bred by Ducher, France 1869. 'Rêve d'Or' is bred from the Noisette, 'Mme Schultz'. Many of the modern references suggest that this is one of the most outstanding of the Noisettes. The plant is vigorous, healthy, blooms almost without pause, and is reasonably cold hardy. What more could you want from a rose? The rich, golden-hued blooms are about 4 inches in diameter, and an unfading rich warm yellow. Not as fully double as some of the Noisettes, it is still a double, deeply cupped bloom, with a very fine fragrance. It is nearly constantly in bloom from spring to frost, with its heaviest bloom in the late summer or early fall. Disease resistance is excellent. From Rose Kingsley, c. 1908: "One of the most useful and hardy of the race, a rampant grower, with buff-yellow blossoms borne in immense numbers both in summer and autumn, while its rich red shoots and reddish-green foliage make it a beautiful object before and after it blooms. It strongly resents any pruning beyond shortening its vigorous summer shoots. ARS
